Journey To A Meatless Life
I watched the What The Health documentary and it made a huge impression on me. After watching it, I stopped eating meat cold turkey (no pun intended). That was a month ago, and I haven't looked back since. Instead of going full vegan, I have opted to have a pescatarian diet. I can eat wild caught fish/seafood if I choose. Eventually, I may make the switch to full vegetarian, but for right now this works for me. It is surprisingly not as hard as I imagined it to be. Yes, I have to get more creative with my meals and it requires a little more planning. One of my girlfriends just gave me a vegan cookbook. I took a look at it and I cant wait to start trying different recipes.
I find many of things I eat taste exactly the same without meat added such as spaghetti or a bowl from Chipotle. Many restaurants now offer vegetarian friendly options which is awesome! If you are thinking of making the change, I say go for it. Start now! It's not as hard as you think. Luckily I have a couple friends who are doing it with me. So we motivate each other to stay on track. And if you need a reason to start, watch the What The Health documentary on Netflix. It gave me the push I needed to start. As an animal lover, I wanted to start living meatless but lacked the drive and motivation to go completely meat free. I was raised eating meat, so I believed it was not going to be so easy to give up. Boy was I wrong. It's been a month and I am doing just fine. When I don't have fish with a meal, I try to incorporate beans to get in my protein and iron. In my opinion, that has been the hardest part. I have never been a big fan of beans. I have grown to tolerate black beans and often include them mixed in with what I'm eating.
I also have developed little tricks to satisfy any craving I get. I loved chic fila! So when I have cravings for Chic Fila I will go order some fries with a side salad and that completely satisfies the craving. So it is possible to resist any urges by finding little tricks that work for you.

Many people ask if I have lost weight since giving up meat. The answer is no. I haven't noticed too many changes. If anything, I started to monitor my carb intake (such as fries, rice, bread, etc), because that has increased. One thing I did notice within 3 days of starting this was an increase in energy! After only 3 days, my energy was through the roof, which was nice. I'm on the road to having a cruelty free lifestyle in all aspects of my life. I'm still learning along the way but I'm enjoying this journey.
