Creating Design Boards

While designing my home, I constantly have several projects going. Its definitely a long term project that is coming together slowly but surely. My latest project was redesigning two of the bathrooms in my home. While I have one finished, I'm still working on the other one. That doesn't stop me from starting another project. I'm usually multi tasking between projects because it seems my brain never stops when creating spaces. So while I work on finishing up my last bathroom , I'm going to start adding some finishing touches to my dining room. Starting with the display cabinet.

My home was built in the 1920's so it has some of the original finishes which I love. So much character. One of the things is a built in mantle in the dining room. It had a glass door that I recently removed. I was just looking at it one day and thought this would look really nice as open shelving. So off came the door. Glad to say I was right. Something as simple as removing the door made such a big difference. It really opened up the room a lot and gave it a more fresh modern feel. With the door removed, you can really see the contents of whats inside more clearly. I painted the shelves and the lining with a fresh coat of white paint and now it's time for styling.

Anytime, I style I create a design board to see how things will look together before purchasing pieces. It lets me physically see how these pieces will look together. My home has a clean neutral look with some feminine and modern touches (but not too feminine, a man does live there as well).

I wanted these shelves to create the same feel as the rest of the house. Keeping up with the light and airy feeling. I created my design board as my guide with some pieces that I love. A design board is a great tool because you can see how pieces, fabrics, and patterns will look together before you even start. In creating my design board, I found I love the look of this. Its that neutral feel with some natural greenery and subtle pops of color. I have my base to start with, mixing in some different textures and shapes.  I cant wait to start designing this and playing around to create the perfect look. Of coarse I will share the finished project with you when it's all done.

Great open shelves created with the glass door removed.
