Packing for a Weekend Getaway

Packing For A Weekend Getaway

Us Millennials love to travel! Travelling is like a 2nd job to some of us! So by now, we have mastered the art of packing right? Wrong. Some of us may have but I know so many people (including my husband) that still over pack every time. When we go out of town, he always has mounds of clothes and shoes everywhere and it drives me nuts. Even if it's just a quick getaway. Quick weekend trips are the best. Spontaneous or not, its nice to just get away for a couple days, recharge, and then head back home. So, how do we prevent from over packing for these getaways. I used to always over pack and end up with several bags. Long gone are the days of just throwing stuff in a bag and figuring out what I'm wearing when I get there. As I have gotten older, I have developed habits that have helped tremendously in not over packing and ending up with me (really my husband) having to carry 5 bags!

Roll your clothes- I remember in college, I went to Las Vegas with a couple of friends for spring break. As a college girl, of coarse I has 20 of everything in stuffed in my bag to the point it looked like my bag was going to bust open. One of my girlfriends I was with had just as much stuff as I did but she had literally rolled every piece of clothing she had and it all fit so nicely in her bag. She told me to roll my clothes that way you can fit more stuff in it. That was over 10 years ago, and I have been doing it ever since. Rolling your clothes really is a life saver. You create so much more space AND it helps your clothes from getting so wrinkled compared to folding.

Pre plan your outfits and only take what you need- This may sound like a no brainer, but it seriously helps. And by outfits, I mean clothes, shoes, jewelry, bags, EVERYTHING! By pre-planning outfits, you're not packing all these  extra clothes and items you wont need or wear that end up just taking up space in your luggage. You pack only what you need. I normally tend to throw in one extra out fit just in case but I never need it.

Take 3 pairs of shoes- Casual, dressy, and everyday walk around shoes. 3 is the maximum amount of shoes I will take on any vacation, short or long.  I know this may be hard for the shoe lover but shoes are big and bulky and take a lot of space in your luggage. Take shoes that are universal and can be worn with different outfits. This way, you are not taking 6 pairs of shoes for a 3 day stay.  If I'm going somewhere and I know I'm going to an event or I will have to dress up, I take 1 pair of a neutral heel. Then I'll take different dresses or outfits that go well with that one shoe. Same goes with everyday casual shoes. 1 pair of comfortable walking sandals or sneakers and center what I'm wearing with that shoe. To help with space, I usually wear the bulkiest shoes (which are normally sneakers) on the plane. Which takes me to my next item

Wear bulky stuff on the plane- Coats, Jackets, hoodies, boots, sneakers. Whatever it may be, wear it on the plane and free that space in your luggage.

Get travel size containers- This saves so much space and allows you to take a lot more products. If you're a product addict like I am, this is beneficial. I find travel size containers to be less bulkier then travel size items sold in stores. And don't take large bottles of perfumes or colognes. If you have a favorite fragrance you wear, head to the store and pick up a couple of testers. Some fragrances also sell the fragrance in a roller ball form which is excellent for travelling.

I saw this meme and this is so accurate!

I hope this helps with your travel plans. Safe travels.

XO, Ashley
