Healthy Snacking On The Go
Its hump day. We're halfway through the week! I strive to live a healthy lifestyle. Eating healthy is not always convenient, especially when your on the go or travelling. It's important that my family and I live the healthiest life possible and that starts with food. I opt to choose eating habits that I can maintain.
Crash dieting and fast weight loss schemes are not my thing at all. It's so unrealistic and I have yet to see anyone with long term results from doing so. I'm also not one to count calories or measure everything I eat. I'm conscious of what I put in my body in a realistic way. Eating clean foods or super foods lets you eat without the guilt while providing the body the necessary nutrients and antioxidants it needs. Easier said then done, I know. But you have to want better for yourself then the $5 value meal that is 1200 calories and still leaves you hungry an hour later.
Am I a perfect eater, absolutely not. I splurge but I stay conscious of what I put in my body and do so in moderation. I only get one body, so I strive take care of it. It's mine for life.
Here are some things I do to help promote better eating habits for myself
1. Grocery shop. Simple but obvious. If I make sure I have groceries I can load up on power and healthy foods. Including healthy alternatives for snacks. I create my own snacks on the go, such as fruit, veggies, nuts, granola, etc and therefore can snack on a healthy option at home.
2. Pack a lunch. By packing my lunch, not only do I save money, I save calories and fat! When I pack my lunch, I'm in control of what I put in my body. Some people buy their lunch every single day. Either from a cafeteria or a fast food chain (i.e chipotle) yet say they are on a diet. Think of how much salt, oils, butters, it took to make that lunch you just purchased, now multiply that by how many times you eat it a week. unnecessary fat intake.
3. Snack on low calorie snacks between meals. My favorite and go to snacks are apple with peanut butter (all NATURAL peanut butter) it tastes like a candy apple. Delicious! Or fruit and yogurt with granola. My favorite are strawberries and blue berries with banana cream greek yogurt topped with banana chips and honey granola. Its so good and satisfies your hunger. Luckily, I love super foods. Avocado and Acai are delicious. So can never go wrong with an acai bowl or avocado toast.
4. Stay away from vending machines. I created a snack drawer at work. It has popcorn, nuts, granola, and other low calorie options that can tie me over if I feel like nibbling on something.
5. Drink water and then drink more water. Drinking pop, juice, or any other sugar based drinks is just in-taking empty calories for no reason. Aside from being terrible for my skin. I limit my intake to very sparingly. I will infuse my water with lemon or even honeydew if I want to have a taste of something.
At the age of 30+, my metabolism is not as fast as it used to be.So I have to work extra hard. Exercising is not enough. Supplying my body with the nutrients and antioxidants it needs to burn through fat helps in maintaining myself. Self Care is important and these are small tricks that work for me.
Every one is different. Find what works for you and start TODAY!
