Black Owned Businesses

Black Owned Businesses

Needless to say, the  recent events happening in this country have brought racial injustice and systematic racism to the fore front. I think one of the biggest things we can do to help is support black owned business. Black entrepreneurs face so many obstacles when trying to start their business, such as having less access to loans and grants to get their business up and running. Supporting these businesses can help make sure they survive this pandemic and their business continues to thrive. I've created a quick round up of a few.

1. Rebel Ave- This is a company that was just started by one of my close friends Jasmine and her business partner Mimi. Rebel Ave is where black culture, art, and businesses connect. They are a black woman-owned consulting, production, and development agency. Dedicated to creating honest and unapologetic stories of the black experience. They help connect black creators and influencers to opportunities and brands to black talent. Their goal is to be your friendly hub for all black anything.

Check out their instagram page

2. Omi woods - This brand is new to me. I discovered them on Instagram. This is a black owned jewelry company. I absolutely love gold jewelry and it's practically all I wear. This company sources African Gold through fair trade. They have been featured in Essence and Vogue magazines. Click on their website and the first thing you see are beautiful black models which is rare in the fashion industry. Their pieces are to die for. Beautifully crafted and unique. I saw some necklaces that are definitely on my buying list. If you are not a fan of gold, there are some silver pieces as well.

3. Black Rooster Decor- I follow this company on instagram. They have some of the dreamiest home decor. Their IG page full of inspo with the beautiful images of their products and home styling. They are based in Canada, but shop their website.

4. The Honey Pot Co- I had heard about this brand and saw it while shopping in Target one day. It's a feminine care brand that is sold in Target and Wal-Mart.  As an avid animal lover, I will only support cruelty free beauty companies. Along with being cruelty free, this brand is clean, 100% natural ingredients, and created by women. This company also gives back by donating feminine hygiene products to the homeless, low income, or those living in poverty.

5. Some other black owned brands at Target include
- Camille Rose Naturals
- Nyakio beauty
- Ali Kay Naturals
- Curls ( I have tried this line. Great products)

 6. Design Essentials- I have used their hair care products for years. You may remember this blog post where I talked about my love of these products.  They have made such a difference with the health of my hair. On their site, search and customize the products based on your hair needs.

7. KNC Beauty- I am such a sucker for skin care. I love trying all the different products to find my holygrail must haves. I recently discovered this company. I can't wait to try their SupaBalm and lip mask. I love masking, however I have never tried a lip mask. So anxious to try this out.

8. Cushnie- This is a luxury clothing brand created by a black woman. I love their clothes but they are super expensive. So I am super excited that they made  a line for Target.

There are so so many more. These are just a few that I love. Rebel ave's creator Jasmine also informed me of a resource called my black receipt. It lists thousands of black owned businesses. You can narrow your search down to search by your city. Another great resource is Beyonce's black parade . This lists many more black owned businesses.

Let's support these businesses and keep the black lives movement going.

XOXO

Ashley
